SNOW COVERS AREA BETWEEN MADISONVILLE AND LUFKIN
I was Told by the desk Huntsville had snow I headed that direction. Getting there nothig but hearing DPS talking about accidents between Madisonville and Lufkin I drove a little further north to the Winter Wonderland..
After shooting Madisonville for some time and not able to get any interviews with the local police as they said it had to be a supervisor(thanks Paco)
I ended up spending most of the night at the Buc-ee’s in Madisonville as I waited for the Live Truck to arrive.
The store is really different everything from jerky to taffy, soft drinks, food, furniture, books and the most friendliest people you have ever met. There again tried to get an interview with an employee about the snow and once again, “it’s against company policy”. Well hearing the snow stories was wonderful enough.
The SAT Truck arrived about 330am and I headed east toward Crockett on 21. The road was bad, blowing snow and slush. It was still holding at 34 degrees.
I arrived in Crockett and it looked like a Christmas Village.
Now continuing east on 7 it got real bad. At times whiteout conditions. You actually had to try to stay in the grooves of road surface even though at ties it was to the right side of the line.
There were several vehicles off the road and when I came to a Head Start van which was partially in the road I stopped to check on it. It was empty but in the roadway. This was 6 miles west of the Angelina County line in Houston County. I attempted to call 911 without any luck. Good old Verizon finally quit searching for a signal as I drove into Lufkin and was able to contact someone(28 miles later).
Lufkin also looked like a winter wonderland.
I fed more video to Houston from there and started back for Conroe. It seems th snow line ended at Diboll.
One thing I did note. From the time I left Conroe until I returned I never saw one TXDOT truck.
